More and more households and businesses are storing self-generated solar power / 80,000 storage units already installed / German Solar Association expects double-digit market growth to continue into 2018. Increasing numbers of households and businesses are storing their self-generated solar power in order to use it at all hours of the day and night. In the past year alone, more than 30,000 new solar power storage systems have been installed in Germany. This amounts to a tripling of the market volume within the last three years.
“We are assuming market growth for solar power storage systems to be in the double-digit range this year as well,” says Carsten Körnig, Chief Executive Officer of the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar). BSW-Solar is confident that the new Federal Government will continue to support storage technology as an indispensable component of the Energiewende, Germany’s energy transition. The coalition agreement contains corresponding commitments.
The costs for solar power storage units have fallen by half over the past four years. By now, every second new solar power system in the private home sector is combined with a storage unit. Körnig expects demand to continue to increase: “In order to be able to utilize the inexpensive solar power for as many applications as possible, more and more consumers and businesses are combining solar power systems, storage units and charging stations for electric vehicles. These technologies complement each other and are ideally suited to creating a synergy effect.”
As representative of leading solar storage providers and as exclusive partner, BSW will present a wide-ranging program at ees, Europe’s largest trade fair for batteries and energy storage systems. ees Europe will take place from 20 to 22 June 2018 at the Messe München trade fair grounds, alongside Intersolar Europe and the two new exhibitions Power2Drive Europe and EM-Power.
