Thunderstorm Information Systems

Thunderstorm Information Systems

A core expertise of Vaisala is our thunderstorm and lightning detection systems.  We offer lightning sensors to detect both in-cloud (also known as cloud-to-cloud lightning) and cloud-to-ground lightning.  Monitoring the total lightning allows users to make informed decisions about the safety and protection of their personnel, assets, property and operations when thunderstorms are in the area.  In addition to lightning sensors, Vaisala provides tracking software, warning systems, historical data, and real-time monitoring through detection networks.

Visibility Sensors

Visibility Sensors

Visibility sensors are used in a wide variety of meteorological applications, including aviation weather monitoring, maritime observation systems, roadway weather conditions, even for obstruction light control systems for wind turbines.  Vaisala offers visibility sensors to measure only visibility, or both visibility and precipitation, which provide users with accurate information about their site conditions.

Weather Stations

Weather Stations

Vaisala weather monitoring stations are used for collecting atmospheric observations for all aspects of the Energy sector, from hydro-electric generation facilities to resource assessment for the development of new wind farms, existing wind farm operations, solar power generation site, transmission line monitoring, or near sub-stations.  Numerous types of weather sensors are available from Vaisala for use with our meteorological stations.

Wind Sensors

Wind Sensors

Professional ultrasonic and mechanical wind sensors provide wind speed and direction data for wind farm developers and operators, turbine manufacturers, or for utilities that monitor wind conditions near power transmission and distribution lines.  Vaisala offers two types of ultrasonic wind sensors and two types of mechanical wind sensors, with heated options available.  We have deployments in all parts of the world, in a variety of challenging climates.  Applications for our wind sensors include, Energy, Aviation, Roads, Maritime, Defense and Meteorology.

Dew Point Instruments

Dew Point Instruments

Vaisala Dew Point Instruments and Dew Point Sensors for Energy Applications: DRYCAP® Dewpoint  andTemperature Transmitter DMT340, Dewpoint Transmitters DMT242, DMT152 and DMT142, Hand-Held Dewpoint Meter DM70, Multiparameter Transmitter DPT145 for SF6 Gas

Moisture in Oil Instruments

Moisture in Oil Instruments

Moisture in Oil Transmitters, Meters and Sensors for Energy Applications. Measure water in oil with Vaisala Instruments: HUMICAP® Hand-held Moisture Meter for Oil MM70, Moisture and Temperature Transmitters for Oil MMT162,  MMT310, and MMT330

Present Weather Sensors

Present Weather Sensors

The Vaisala series of present weather sensors offer perfect solutions for visibility measurement and precipitation type detection.  Knowing the current conditions at your site(s) can be critical to your energy operations, and this data allows you to make better decisions about efficiency, asset protection and safety.

Wind Measurement Systems

Wind Measurement Systems

Vaisala wind measurement systems are designed to meet the needs of wind farm developers and operators who desire accurate, reliable and continuous wind measurement data.  Applications of the systems include wind resource assessment, wind farm observations, solar generation sites, and hydro-electric generation sites.  Five configurations of the wind measurement systems are available, ranging from an economical system with mechanical wind sensor technology to high-performance systems with ultrasonic wind sensor technology.
